More Than a Comfort Meal. A Community

Since 1944, The World Famous Florida Avenue Grill has been part of Washington D.C history: a place to find a hearty meal, familiar faces, and a sense of belonging. Through generations of change, "The Grill" has remained a gathering place rooted in love for our city, community and respect for all.

On all walls you will find photos of change-makers like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, Stokely Carmichael, Maya Angelou and many more. Everyone on the walls has visited this iconic location, and some are regulars. Many of the people on our walls are known for helping to unite and push our beloved city and country forward, while others may be more controversial.

Their presence connects our dining room to a larger more complex story of humanity and community.

At The Grill we continue to carry forward the values of legacy, dignity and belonging. If you're organizing for social justice, championing a community cause, or bringing people together for something positive, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us what you're working on, and let's explore how The Grill can be part of it.
